My Tennis Stats app good for
Super application, easy to use. Very useful to track mistake trends and shot effectiveness. I would like to see some improvements: 1) I would like to be able to export files in excel format in order to manipulate data overtime. This would also be beneficial if I would like to share the data with the other player, but would like to preserve my players information. Right now I can erase data from the file directly on my iPad but it has to be done cell by cell. 2) I would like to also be able a global view of courts placement. Right now, we can see it per shot but not under a consolidated view. This would reduce analysis time. 3) Minor thing regarding the graphical display: it would be clearer to display the shot selection per player name. We get used to it but not intuitive at the beginning. 4) Also, I follow young kids with this, and sometimes they get mixed up in the service turns. It turned out that if by mistake, they serve twice, your whole data entry doesnt work anymore. It would be nice to be able to switch server (even if this is not supposed to be). Thank you! I find this tool very uselful to give constructive feedback.
These is a very nice application to have when you watch a match and you want statistics
1. Unable to track stats over a season unless using the website, which requires an expensive subscription fee. Given the already expensive cost of the app, this seems unnecessary.
2. Some uploaded info is incorrect (serve %, for one.)
3. A few crash issues, which hopefully will be addressed soon.
4. Unclear (to me) the difference between "service winner" and "no return" stat options.
5. Need for match types to add flexiblity for sets of less than 6 games (some junior tournaments use this). User set parameters for number of games, sets, and tiebreaker types would be helpful. However, the match types listed cover most adult formats.
6. Needs an upgrade to the interface graphics, but button sizes are perfect the way they are.
7. Needs persistent match preferences to eliminate the need to toggle the same options for every new match.
The actual in-game stat tracking is excellent, and after looking at over a dozen stat apps, this one is the most complete, with the simplest interface to use. Though you can opt to use graphical ball placement (which I find impossible to do in real time when watching a match) you can turn off this function if you dont want/need it.
Summary: biggest negative: seasonal stat tracking cost is prohibitive-- should be included in the price or should allow data storage on device. Biggest positive-- robust stat tracking.
Thanks.
This app has features which its competitor, Tennis Trakker Pro, does not:
no-ad scoring, doubles play, 8 game pro-sets, and undo.
It does not record service winners (they are recorded as regular ground strokes) and the user interface is cluttered (background images more salient than icons, difficult to read text, cluttered icons, etc.) Tennis Trakker Pro DOES record service winners and the interface is cleaner (with the exception of that annoying "Is this correct?" dialog box you get with every point!)
Bottom line: Tennis Trakker Pro is missing too much to be useful (and its more expensive) so for the money, My Tennis Stats wins.
Its a very good way to chart tennis matches. It has been the best app ever
For many years, I have tracked tennis matches as a simple judge of progress in a players development. I have this and the other tracking app. Simply put, I think this is a MUCH better app. First this one accurately tracks double matches I just tracked one last week and was very pleased. No crashes, nada. The process of tracking a match is a "work flow" process, you have to correctly assign the server, you must understand that a "forced" error is a positive point for the forcer. These little details must be assigned correctly for accurate data. It takes practice to get it right.
Further, the app provides with better data. Last, the developers appear to be updating regularly. I look forward to the developers ideas on their updates.
Some bad moments
Excellent app for beginners to advanced parents or coaches. They also continually update and improve this app.
One of my friends showed me Tennis Trakker Pro at a tournament last week-end and they really like it. After going through the reviews, I decided to buy this app instead. I used it to chart some matches and not only did it crash on me during a game, it was also really hard to use. I spent more time looking at the screen trying to use the product than watching the match. Several times, I missed the point being played so I had to use the undo function that messed up my stats. It showed negative 1 in the stats!! Later on, I used it to chart a doubles match and couldnt choose the 8 game pro set option. I tapped on it several times but it doesnt respond! What a waste of time and money! I wish I had just bought Tennis Trakker Pro instead.
I usually dont write reviews but I decided to write this one hoping to save some of you unnecessary heartburns.
Im a tennis coach and many of my students play competitive tennis so I decided to get this app to track their matches in tournaments. I managed to track several singles matches during the first few days of a tennis tournament until the following happened:
I was almost done tracking a match when I heard that a heated match between a tough opponent and one of my students is about to split set. I then went to see that match and started setting up the app to track the deciding 10-point tie breaker. I entered the players names and chose "10pt in lieu of 3rd Set" option and in the "Enter Stats" screen I edited the points so that each player won a set. That way I can start tracking the tie break. As soon as I finished logging the first point of the tie-break, the app crashed!! I quickly relaunched it but it wouldnt! I got a black screen and it goes back to the app icon. After talking to several people, I was told to delete the app and reinstall it. So now, all of my data are gone!! (Caution: dont try to reproduce the crashing bug using the above steps because it crashed on me every time!)
I still had faith so after I finished tracking another singles match, I setup a new match in the app to track doubles. I tapped on the doubles icon but I still got only two player fields to enter. I then tapped on the first player field and boom, it crashed again! This time, I could restart it but found myself very nervous every time I touched an icon: I dont know when its going to crash and now I question the integrity of the stats data. At that point, I decided to cut my losses and deleted this app.
I think Im going to look for something else. This app is useless as it has too many bugs in it. The interface is too busy and too hard to use. I used it for a day to chart a match and it crashed at the first point of the 10 point tie-break. Now I cant even start the app again, that means all the recorded stats are gone!
- Awkward interface
- Crashes too easily
- Cant choose 8 game pro-set (why is it there if you cant use it?)
- 10pt in lieu of 3rd set match type doesnt work. It crashes in the tie-break
- Cant launch the app now
Paid my $10, played with for 30 minute to get aquainted. The next day I recorded my sons match and seemed to review fine. Then the app crashed and will no longer properly launch. Rebooted iPod touch by holding top-left button and bottom round button until unit "powered off". My Tennis Stats app still wont run. Id probably be OK if it still ran, but its currently useless. Next time, Ill buy a program that offers an "demo/lite" evaluation version.
Just wanted to update: all the early bugs are gone and the user interface is cleaner and the stats are more thorough. Good just got better!
Follow up to my earlier review: I am very impressed with how quickly the developers respond to feedback and bugs. I have made suggestions that were already being worked on and have found the app only getting better with time. Warning-you have to practice with it. Once you do, youll find a good rhythm and keep better stats.
On to my original review: TennisStats is better that Tennis Trakker because it has an undo button for mistakes, it supports both singles and doubles, and it features various scoring formats (8 game pro-sets, third set tiebreaker, and even five set matches. I like that the scoreboard stays at the top throughout the point tracking. You can add a point without tracking if you accidently miss one. Id like an overall unforced/forced error summary in addition to the specific shot summary and the buttons could be a little crisper (no need for the cute tennis player background). Better value than Tennis Trakker, too.
